PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A dissertation project that achieved a 2:1 result. This project has been set up to expand into a commercial setting. Autism Ally is a mobile app that aids parents who have a child who is undergoing a diagnosis for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It uses a simplistic approach to allow parents to organise a heavy load of information that is typical for an ASD diagnosis. This app also provides relevant toys and resources for children with ASD.

Timeline

From initial primary and secondary research to a hi-fidelity tested prototype in 7 months.

Background

As a parent to a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder, I found it incredibly hard to keep organised with appointment notes through my child's diagnosis as this process took nearly 2 years and weekly appointments with 3 different specialists. I identified the need for an application like this, but used primary research methods to identify further needs with the target demographic.

PROCESS

This category details the step-by-step approach taken during the project, including research, planning, design, testing, and optimization phases.

Research & Planning

User interviews and surveys were conducted to understand and identify accurate pain points and needs of the target demographic. Using this feedback to create Personas, User Journey Maps to begin to understand the required User Task Flow for this application.

Design & Prototyping

As the lead designer, wireframes were established based off User Journey Maps & Workflows. Brand Identity styles were used to turn wireframes into a hi-fidelity prototype.

Testing & Optimization

Conducted both moderated & unmoderated rounds of testing. Purposefully tailoring questions to gather insights on UX flow and the success of whether the app is addressing the user's required needs. Test results were used as part of an iterative design process.

SOLUTION

Designed a tool that received positive feedback from the target demographic and comments with a desire to see the app developed
